Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions I receive about maternity portrait photography. I am a photographer in Utah County; let me know in the comment section if you have any additional questions. When is the best time to schedule a maternity photography session? The best time to schedule a maternity photography session is typically between 28-36 weeks of pregnancy, when the belly is visibly round and the baby bump is prominent. What should I wear for the session? It's best to wear comfortable and fitted clothing that accentuates your baby bump. Avoid clothing with large logos or patterns as they can be distracting in the photographs. You can also bring a variety of outfits, or a special dress or piece of jewelry to incorporate into the shoot. I have more information in my maternity client prep guide which goes out to you before the session takes place. Can my partner and other children be included in the session? Yes, many families choose to include their partner and other children in the maternity photography session. It's a great way to capture the special bond between the expecting parents and their children. Can I bring props to the session? Yes, you can bring props to the session such as a special blanket, a piece of jewelry, or any other meaningful items to incorporate into the photos. How long does a maternity session typically last? A maternity session typically lasts around one hour, depending on the needs of the family. The photographer will work with you to ensure that enough time is allocated to capture all the important moments and details of your pregnancy. Will you pose me? I as the photographer will guide you through poses to accentuate your beautiful baby bump, but I will also capture a few candid and natural moments throughout the session as they present. You can also request specific poses or ideas that you would like to try. Is the session indoors or outdoors? Primarily I photograph my maternity portrait sessions in an outdoor location such as a park, garden, or even downtown cityscape. Outdoor locations can provide a beautiful natural lighting and unique background for the photographs. But we can also discuss doing the session indoors either at your home or at a locally rented photography studio (my preferred studios are in Springville and Highland, Utah) if you prefer. How will I receive the photos?
About 4-6 weeks after your session you will receive a link to your online gallery with the watermarked images from your session. After you make your purchase you will receive an email link to download your digital images. You can also order prints and other products through the gallery as well as share the images with friends and family. What should I expect after the session? After the session, the photographer will select the best images and edit them to perfection. The images will then be linked via online gallery to you along with instructions on how to place your order. You can also order prints and other products through our online ordering system.

Welcome back everyone! We have officially moved to Utah and have settled in. I thought a great inaugural post would be to update my FAQs on newborn photography. If you have any further questions feel free to comment them below or click here to send me a message. How long will the newborn photography session take? The length of the session will vary depending on the baby's temperament, but most newborn photography sessions take around 2-3 hours. This allows time for feeding, soothing, and changing the baby, as well as setting up different poses and backdrops. Check out this video to see the basics of what I bring to each newborn photoshoot. What should I bring to the newborn photography session? When you book Jessica Esplin Photography your newborn session takes place in the comfort of your own home so if you happen to forget something it's easy to retrieve. But for a smoother session I recommend having the following items ready. It is best to have a few extra diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes for the baby, as well as any special outfits or props you would like to use in the photos. If you are breastfeeding, it's also a good idea to bring a bottle and breast pump. It is also a good idea to have a pacifier out even if your baby doesn't seem to like it yet. Sometimes having a pacifier is just the trick to get the baby to calm down for the photo. What is the best time of day for a newborn photography session?
The best time of day for a newborn photography session is typically in the morning when the baby is most likely to be well-rested and alert. This will also allow you to have the majority of the day ahead to rest. Can I be in the photos with my newborn? Yes, our newborn photography sessions include family photos, so parents and siblings can be in the photos with the baby. Can you photograph my baby even if they are born prematurely? Yes, most professional newborn photographers are experienced in working with premature babies and will be able to take photographs, but it's important to let the photographer know in advance if the baby was born prematurely so they can be prepared and take necessary precautions. How long will it take to receive my photos after the session? The turnaround time for receiving your newborn photos will vary depending on the gallery, but the majority of the time your images will be ready within 4-6 weeks after the session. If you need your images sooner you can pay a rush order fee. |
