I had the privilege of photographing this family's big sister when she was a newborn baby and so I was extremely excited to hear that she has a new baby brother. I was stunned by how similar the siblings look. Here's a link to big sis's newborn photos so you can see the similarities too! Capturing the Sweet Chaos: A Newborn Photography Session with Siblings
Welcoming a newborn into the family is a momentous occasion filled with joy and anticipation. However, when there's an energetic two-year-old sibling in the mix, the dynamics of a newborn photography session can become both challenging and heartwarmingly unpredictable. Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing the beautiful chaos of a newborn session featuring a lively two-year-old girl and her adorable baby brother. Navigating the Energetic World of a Two-Year-Old From the moment I entered the family's home in the heart of Utah County, it was evident that this photoshoot would be an adventure. The little girl, full of curiosity and excitement, was eager to explore everything around her. Navigating her bubbly energy required a blend of patience, creativity, and a knack for turning the unexpected into something beautiful. Finding Harmony Between Siblings As any parent knows, capturing a perfect moment with a two-year-old is a bit like herding cats. However, with a delicate balance of gentle direction and allowing her to be herself, we found moments of genuine connection between the siblings. The little girl's curiosity turned into tenderness as she peeked at her baby brother, creating heart-melting scenes that beautifully told the story of newfound siblinghood. She really loves her new baby. Challenges Turned into Captivating Moments The unpredictability of a toddler adds an element of surprise to each frame. At times, she wanted to be the center of attention, and at others, she was fascinated by the camera. Her attention was very fleeting so we had to work quickly. Embracing these challenges, we turned seemingly chaotic moments into captivating snapshots that reflected the authentic spirit of their relationship. Creating a Relaxed Environment To ensure the comfort of both siblings, I focused on maintaining a relaxed and unhurried environment. This involved strategically planning breaks for the toddler to play and incorporating her toys into some of the shots. By allowing her to engage with her surroundings, we captured genuine expressions and created a positive experience for everyone involved. Preserving the Essence of Family In the end, the challenges of the session transformed into opportunities to capture the genuine essence of family life with a toddler and a newborn. Through laughter, gentle moments, and a touch of creative spontaneity, we created a collection of images that will serve as cherished memories for years to come. Photographing a newborn session with a two-year-old brings its own set of challenges, but it also unveils precious moments that authentically reflect the dynamics of family life. As a newborn photographer in Utah, I find immense joy in preserving these fleeting moments, celebrating the love, laughter, and unexpected beauty that define each unique family. For families in Utah seeking a newborn photographer, my goal is to capture not just posed portraits but the true spirit of your family. Don't miss the portrait we created with our little baby and her four older siblings. It's too precious!
I was able to attend a newborn photography workshop given by Winter Hoins of Wild Willow Studio in Salt Lake City. We learned about posing and editing. Our first newborn model was the first born child of an amazing couple. It was a joy to photograph them together. I gained a lot of confidence from attending this workshop.
This was my last session before the quarantine happened. I'm so glad we were able to do it about two weeks before the quarantine made everything crazy. I met these two adorable twin baby girls at their home in Santa Clara at the end of February. I haven't been had the opportunity to photograph twins since I took my nieces' photos so I was super excited to do this session. The older two sisters just loved their new little twin sisters. And the two year old was remarkably well behaved for her age, something nice to have to make my job a little easier. And oh boy, let me tell you: their mama is a rock star! She delivered her twins at home at 39 (and closer to 40!) weeks gestation. Wow! And you could never tell by how stunning she looks! Simply amazing!
One twin was more interested in sleeping than the other, but that's usually how it goes right? They're still both so cute! Do you see the crocheted pea pod? That was a prop that the mom pulled out and asked to use in the session. I was dying from how cute they were in it; two peas in a pod! I photographed this little guy with his mom, dad, and big sister at their home. Big sis was amazing! Two year olds can be a difficult age to work with but this little girl was a rock star and such a good listener. You could tell she was really excited to have a new baby in her family.
When we started the session it seemed like little baby boy was not going to settle or sleep but once he was swaddled he went right to sleep. While this is not always the case you as a new or soon to be parent can learn about why swaddling often works so well (along with other advice about soothing baby) by signing up for my Free New Parent Email Guide (link also in side bar --->). |
